Discover Your Potential: Explore Alternative Tech Roles Beyond Cloud Engineering

Break Through Crew,

Life has its highs and lows, and I've experienced plenty of both, all of my own making, no excuses. Let me take you back to my room in Douglasville some years ago before the third leg of my career jump-started. Picture this: my bed was propped up on crates (talk about humble beginnings!), no air conditioning, windows without screens, and three mischievous cats that didn't belong to me but seemed to think they did. My room door knob didn't work, so I had to barricade it with my laundry basket whenever I left, lest the furry invaders ransack my space and pilfer my food. Rent was a hefty $500-$600 a month, and I was pulling in a modest $18-$24 an hour on a contract that could evaporate any day.

My roommates? Three white boys, brothers, with a penchant for drama and impromptu Trump-supporter parties that raged on until the wee hours. Amidst the chaos, I made a decision: I was going to become a cloud engineer or bust. I cleared out all distractions and poured every ounce of energy into self-learning and obtaining AWS certification, despite the absence of cloud tech influencers or guidance at the time.

It wasn't easy. There were rejections, failed attempts, and countless interviews. But in August of 2019, after six interviews in two days, I received my first offer to become a well-paid cloud engineer ($60k+ bonus, benefits, etc.). The catch? I had to relocate to a different state and city within a month, a place I'd never set foot in before. So, I tied up loose ends, loaded up my trusty 2012 Nissan Altima (known for its tendency to overheat), bid farewell to my mom and sisters, and hit the road with determination in my heart and a sense of adventure in my soul.

That decision changed everything. From crates to clouds, I've seen it all. And now, I'm here to share my journey and help others carve their own path to success in the tech world.

For those determined to navigate their transition into a cloud tech career as efficiently as possible, I offer an hour of personalized advice. Book your slot here

If you’re still thinking about cloud security like it’s something you “add later,” you’re already trailing behind. Securing your architecture needs to be a layered strategy from the jump—from the outer perimeter down to what your IAM policies and malware scans are doing. This isn’t just best practice—it’s job insurance. Because when that breach comes (and it will), they’ll be asking who planned, not who reacted. Certs are cute. But design decisions are where the money lives. Real engineers...
